45+ ‘Two Thumbs Up’ Christian Book Suggestions

A few weeks ago I asked MH4C readers to suggest their favorite books of 2011. Now, we're going to turn that list into some reading suggestions. However, let me begin by saying that this list is not my recommended reading list. I was actually hoping for more overlap so I could pull out some of the most frequently recommended books, but no luck. Craig's Top 9 Recommended Books of 2011 7 Habits … [Read more...]

The Best Books of 2011 [Give Your Feedback]

I'll be honest. This post is self serving.  I want to find the best books of 2011. I'm about to ask you a question I've been asking several other friends. I decided that perhaps others would be interested in providing feedback as well as hearing the results. Over the last few months when I finish a book, I've been asking friends what books they recommend. I'd much rather read a book someone … [Read more...]

Why Every Missionary Needs a Kindle or Nook

Alright, I know we ought to differentiate between needs and wants, and I'm sure a Kindle or Nook doesn't technically fall under the category of need, but they are very, very nice to have - especially for missionaries. ** The Kindle may be better for people who live overseas.  To get books on your Nook if live overseas you'll need to do one of two things.  Either you must 'root' your Nook and … [Read more...]

A Guarantee is Only as Good as the Guarantor

I once had an awful experience with the Hilton Hotel Brand. The short and sweet version is that I booked a hotel through Expedia.  Since Hilton has a Price Match Guarantee, I submitted all my paperwork that showed I got the hotel through Expedia for 50% less than the best rate at Hilton.  They did not honor my request. Here are the reasons why: Reason #1 – Mr. Ford, You booked through an … [Read more...]

Coming Soon. Transforming Your Financial Diet

I believe there is a tremendous amount of potential good that can be done by Christians who intentionally embrace a simple life so they can participate in generous giving. Over two years ago I sat down to attempt to write a book that would teach Christians about the value of a simple life and how to live a simple and generous life. That book, Transforming Your Financial Diet: 7 Steps to … [Read more...]

Save Money on Restaurants and Attractions with the Entertainment Book

Some folks say that you’ve got to spend money to make money.  I’m not sure how true that is, but sometimes it is a good idea to buy products based on value (even if they are more expensive).  In other words, there are some things you can buy that offer you more value (or return) than what you pay. As many of you know, I live in Papua New Guinea.  Now, what I’m about to say will sound really … [Read more...]

24 Books Every Church Leader Should Own

I’m sort of a geek when it comes to books.  Since moving to PNG, I’ve slowed down on buying books, but a quick estimate confirms that I have around 500 ministry/theology/Bible study related books.  By contrast, I have about 25 personal finance books. The ultimate irony of this blog is that I spend a lot more time studying topics other than finances.  Most of the time I read theological books - … [Read more...]

How To Sell Your Books on Half.com

Yesterday, I suggested everyone buy used books online.  I specifically gave some tips to college students on how to buy books.  Today I want to suggest that college students should resell 60-80% of their books at the end of a semester. Why Sell Used Books Online? Many of your books you will never look at again. This is especially true over the first two years where you are taking required … [Read more...]
