2.     Filling Up the Afflictions of Christ by John Piper

This book is available to download (as a PDF) free.

John Piper is a talented writer and a notable Christian leader.   He is one of those authors who has reached the status of, “anything he writes must be good.”  Piper writes:

More and more I am persuaded from Scripture and from the history
of missions that God’s design for the evangelization of the world and the consummation of his purposes includes the suffering
of his ministers and missionaries. To put it more plainly and specifically, God designs that the suffering of his ambassadors is one essential means in the triumphant spread of the Good News among all the peoples of the world. (pg 14)

After laying a solid biblical foundation, Piper goes on to share stories of those who exemplify the affliction of Christ in their own lives.  The book shares the lives and faith examples of William Tyndale, John Patton, and Adoniram Judson.
